Starting Issue

New here so hi everyone, after a bit of advice

 

Just got a 2005 Grand Voyager at a very good price so happy to sort a few issues with it.

 

It was rubbish at starting and had a few wiring issues .It being winter and me having neither the time nor anywhere suitable to have a play took it to a garage I have used for years where they fixed the wiring looms, fitted a new glow plug and fitted a new fuel filter housing as this was cracked so letting in air

 

Got it back last week where it started first time. Due to not taxing to start of the month and not needing the car didn't use till yesterday. started first time a dream. idled for a few minutes while clearing screen and then drove a few minutes and turned off. it then took maybe 5 or 6 attempts to restart, would start and cut out. Oh also has a new battery so plenty of voles available

 

any suggestions. I'm going to give it another try tonight or tomorrow to see if it does the same

 

I have seen mention of the crank shaft sensor. could this be a cause and how easy is it to change? I can get parts from Euros at good trade so happy to do myself unless its a PITA which can only be accessed while up in the air.

Welcome, as you'll hear from a few folk on here, a number of GV's have now got to the end of their life, whereby they become a constant stream of repairs and new parts.

 

However that isn't to say yours falls into that category, but watch out especially as you say that you 'got it for a very good price' which could mean that the previous owner was only too glad to get rid of it, as it was becoming a liability.

 

Logically your first point of call is going back to the garage who fixed it for you, as it clearly wasn't 'fully fixed'.

 

The fault codes will tell if there's an obvious problem, and air in the system is always a possibility.
