2001 Grandvoyager Wont Start.

Question

3.3l petrol G-voyager been sat for a few years and won't start.
New battery used from working voyager with plenty of CCA. 
All lights come on, aircon goes through its startup and single indicator flash as per installing a new battery.
Turn ignition key and nothing. No tap of starter engaging. a couple of tiny clicks from relays, nothing else.

Also after key 1st position, wasnt able to change gear. 
Took off steering wheel covers and checked cable connections, now can change gear after 1st position so somthing iffy in the ignition area.

Any ideas other than the starter?
Can't (dont want to !) take out the starter as it on a hill on flat tires, no room to get underneath even if it was on jacks.
It had some intermitant dashboard electrical wierdness before being put to rest, so hoping its something in the cab rather than the engine bay.

Sounds like a TX1 London cab, originally VM Motori chain cam petrol marine engine. Never had one or worked on them. Usually good for donkey work 4-5 thousand miled

 

From your description of clicks & nothing the "trigger wire" would be my first on a menu of tests.

 

- IGN thin wire to switch direct to spade terminal on solenoid "permits" starter to be engaged !

- seized ?

- solenoid fekked?

- starter fekked ?

- bendix stuck on ?

Well certainly as Captain says check theres 12v at starter when applying. Have you done that.

Havn't had the chance yet, cant get under the front to get to it. It on a wierd angle on the drive and has a flat, so until It can get it jacked up I can't do much.

Will be checking as per Qinteq's sugestions.

So far just pulled off the steering column covers as said.

Any vehicle that's sat for years is liable to be a total dogs dinner of things now gone wrong which worked fine before it was taken off the road. The list can be endless including electricals, seals, brakes, contacts, etc, etc.

 

Whilst its okay to spend some time/effort/cash saving an old beasty, unless there's something very special about that particular GV you could be wasting a lot of time/effort/cash for nothing  :(

 

Had it been an E Type, TR, Series 1 Landie, etc the effort would be more understandable.
