ForzaLancia
Up to now my bella has been very reliable, however bad things come in threes 1) cannot get the sump plug off as some grease monkey thought he was putting on a wheel bolt, will have to be drilled out, even a chisel wont shift it 2) water leak, from the thermstat housing pie I think, where the securing bracket is moulded onto the main pipe, looks like it may be fractured 3) leak from the washer bottle all because cleaned my Alfa spider and not her. 0 Cassino
If it were my car,I'd consider buying one of those Syphon type devices.....leave the plug in place, make sure the oil is really hot......(which I always do, and I leave overnight for a proper drain)and suck out your old oil... 0 MikeyRules
Check the bottom hose hasn't come off the washer bottle. Both me and Neil had this happen!

0 ForzaLancia
Tracking down the coolant leak, which is the most pressing issue is proving difficult as I can't see where it is coming from. Initially I thought it was coming from the thermostat pipe, but I think it is getting sprayed on from somewhere else. There is a black plastic shroud at the front right of the engine, that appears to be the main suspect but of course it is what is behind there that is the real issue. On the 1.9 it was the heat exchanger, any ideas on the 2.0 gents?
0 ForzaLancia
Looks like it still a heat excganger of some sort, just bigger, more complicated and with lots of little pipes and seals. Joy!
0 ForzaLancia
looks like this is the culprit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1r5k6Ao_Sk I guess as my car is older and over 100,000 miles I may be the first of many! £275 if Alfaworkshop do it (so common they have it on their menu) or £30 for the same genuine Vauxhall part from Lookers on ebay and I skin my own knuckles. 0 MikeyRules
Ah that makes sense. I know a few peeps that have had that exact EGR cooler problem, so like you say quite common on the earlier cars. What you going to do? Pay or play?
