Question

Hi All

Q. Stop start, is it  possible to disable the warning  light - stop start not working-

Reason -  unknown territory regarding MOT pass/failure. MOT states that all warning lights should be extinguished, fair eniugh with ABS/ ECU etc etc but stop start? it has a disable button anyway!!!

tried fuse info in hand book but makes no mention and  unknown if its a shared fuse anyway

and yes  i  know of the million reasons why it stops working but i want rid.

Thankyou

me

Amazingly enough I am still on my original battery which still does not give any issues apart from the S/S not now kicking in. I do not get any errors saying its not available though. I only get that when I manually press the disable button so suspect there may be another issue to cause the warning alert? poop - as you show as being in Staffs - had you tried my mate Paul Gilbert who owns - http://www.motor-mech.co.uk/index.asp

Paul has looked after all my cars for years including  my Delta. He has all the Diagnostic kit as Mike says so should be able to tell you the issue. He is in central Brum right next to the Bullring.

I should get a new battery too though as mentioned I have absolutely no issues starting etc. so have not bothered and S/S really does not bother me.

Thanks guys, good news  is that My Delta passed the MOT with a few comments.

Stop /Start :- my battery was replaced under warrenty after 1 year so current battery is approx 7 yrs old but its starts first time even on cold days and I cant be bothered to pay upward  of £120 just so the stoopid stop start system works, its not and never has been a reliable system.

My conern was warning  light being present during the MOT. I still dont know if its a fail if it does light up  during the test but it is intermittent anyway. I cant understand  if it would be a fail as anything will stop it working and it can be manually turned  off.

My location is Newcastle, staffs sir, Brum  is a little bit too far even though I travelled to Wolverhampton to buy the vehicle  in the first place, went after the SR but it was sold the day before I got there, luckily they had an SE as a demo, snapped his hand  off.

info on discs to follow, had a big day......

Well done. I think they normally say the average battery life is around 4-5 years though S/S cars usually have a higher capacity to take the constant S/S load. As mentioned I'm still on the original again the only 'issue' it gives me is the system does not kick in which I am not concerned about. I think the Delta has a fairly early system so indeed was not the most reliable anyway. I probably will replace the battery soon though. Any queries with the warning light I would just say you have the override button on to disable the system. Enjoy the car.

Over here in Ireland we have the National Car Test (NCT) which is broadly similar to the MOT, the guidance regarding warning lights is;

if it's on and should be off . . Fail

If it's off and should be on . . Fail

I can't remember a stop/start warning, unless it is specifically turned off at the button on the dash???

My wife's Delta, the stop/start has a life all of its own, sometimes it works and when you expect it to work, it doesn't :-(
