Hi,, not sure if the GV 3.3 has both, I think it will, they are NOT the same thing ;actually and confusingly, they might be! Let me explain...

These are 2 magnetic sensors that can detect the position of 1/ the crankshaft, and 2/ the CAMshaft. The signals from BOTH will be checked by the ECU to determine the correct position of the engine in its rotation, and fire the ignition and fuel injectors accordingly. Both sensors have to give the expected output to work OK, any discrepancy and you will have problems.

It could be either or both (unlikely both will fail together), so it is a case of swapping a known good or new sensor for the old ones, and try it out. Or get a diagnostic readout done which may pinpoint which one has failed.  assuming it is the sensor, and not something else, like a fuel problem.

I had a Renault Laguna where the crank sensor failed, and it would sometimes not start at all, or go into limp mode, or behave normally. I changed the crank sensor for 25 quid and all was well. The fault description was IIRC, something like 'fuel injectors no trigger voltage'. Bad signals from the sensor shut down the fuel injectors to prevent damage.BTW, does turning the ignition off and back on again cure it for a while?

Hi there!

You need to do the "key dance" to get any available codes if there are any.

Put key in the ignition, from the off position turn to "ON" (NOT the cranking position) back to off then on, then off then on, at the 3rd "on" stop, and observe what the odometer does, it should, if there are any to be had, scroll through fault codes.

See if they tie up with what you've already found.

And please report back to us!And we'll do what we can to assist.

Thanks guys for the replies, I did do the key test I do recall it coming up with both codes. I can't do it again to get codes as it is in Spain so hoping to sort out the problem so I can take parts over and fix her. Forgot to mention the last Time I dove her the bucking surging was still happening so we stopped for a while then when I tried starting her she just turned over kept trying but nothing then all of a sudden she started drove probably 1mile cut out completely started her again just took it slow for about 15 miles to get back to the house.

Hi guys,

I have this very problem now! It started 2 days ago!

Did you manage to sort it?! I’ve taken mine to my mechanic and the code reader says it’s the camshaft sensor, however I’ve bought a new one and my mechanic has fitted but we still have the same problem.

Mine is a 3.3 auto, and it can be fine for a few miles (usually is to begin with), but then surging, feels although no fuel is getting through. I was stood on driveway and revved ok up to 2000 rpm but then just over 2250 rpm she started to misfire, splutter and surge again. Bloody car!
