Grand Or Not Grand, That Is The Question! Ebay Listings And Dvla

Seen a few GV mk 4 on ebay, clearly NOT a GV, just a regular V. See pics. Am I missing something? Basing assumption on lengths of rear side windows. Or am I missing something? DVLA have MOT history on a large number listed as GV, when clearly not, too- as far as I can make out.Anyone else noticed how common this is? Which of these 3 are or not please?  All help welcome!

No idea on your listings but put simply the 4GEN voyagers are :

- about 12" shorter /longer [01-07] and had 2.4 / 2.5 derv or 3.3-litre petrol

 

Put simply the 4GEN grand [April 2004 facelift] voyagers are :

- added 2.8 derv and more knobs + functions and in [2005] stow 'n Go

Yes I have noticed that some years ago when I was looking for them, and also on autotrader.

 

Differences are as QinteQ says, plus:

 

The rear panel at low level, between the rear wheel and sliding door, is only just about 2", not 9". So your pictures look like Grand Voyager, Voyager, Grand Voyager. Although it says it on the boot of the car, the last picture is not that clear so not totally sure.

 

Wheel bases are 113" for Voyager and 119" for the Grand Voyager.

 

Not completely sure but I didn't think the Voyagers had electric sliding doors - but that is NOT definite, there could always be exceptions for factory orders from new I reckon.

Thanx for the replies, folks, most helpful. The one I was looking at is indeed a grand, just the pic makes it look short. Found at least 4 on ebay that are listed as grand when patently not, and checking dvla history shows grand too, when obviously not. i believe thats a bit serious and misleading. I stopped emailing the ebay ones that were wrong as most ignore me and one got shirty! (one has been most helpful). 

I presume, then, that a grand is/was a grand, and was always the same length, and did not grow longer as the grand was facelifted or sto'n'go'd? 

All I have to do now, is come to terms with what I might be getting into as I have had espaces for well over 20 yrs and am contemplating coming out of my comfort/knowledge zone into murky C land!

Any definitive buyers guide about or on here as to what to watch for? Modern cars, eh? who'd have 'em.....!  Cheers  Dave

Re the above and wrong description of model on ebay and DVLA/VOSA

Ebay item   264179936996  is incorrect title and description, no reply from seller.

Ebay item  173781577984 is correct title, but vehicle details model is wrong (probably from dvla when listing reg nimber on ebay).

being 2 examples, some others have ended or maybe removed. Or even sold? Should anyone want a look.

 

And what is it that a lot of them are black, and those dark side windows!! Waaaaay to dark for the uk sun, and I don't like them as its like being in a cellar at this time of year after about half past four. 

 

However, should I buy or not?? (not one of these particular ones of course)  Seems they all have common faults, viz-

oil leaks

windscreen chips/damage

parking brake woes and brake imbalance

tyre wear on shoulders

lights (especially rear number plate) being out

worm spring bushes (are they REALLY front leaf springs?!)

yadda yadda ,etc,. & so forth.  looking at DVLA MOT history is quite telling in some respects, as there will be more I guess.

Trying to get a feel if I can avoid a lemon, so any comments good bad or otherwise anyone cares to give will be welcome, Thanx in advance folks! 

(the idea is not  to have to come back on here too often asking for help with problems, lol.)

But just in case, is there a list of independent Chrysler dealers, or any in Cheshire/Lancashire if things go T.U?

From you pictures the 2 silver one are grand and the blue one is not.

 

They have blacked out rear windows to try to keep temperature down in the back as there are no proper opening windows just the vent windows.

 

They do have their issues, a lot of electrical problems, if you do look at one play with every nob and switch make sure it functions as it should.

 

Issues with suspension and brakes are common due to weight of the car.

My parking brake has to be stripped and rebuilt before every mot.

Front nearside tyre wear is high again due to weight.

They don't have front leaf springs.

Only leaf springs in the rear.

They are a big heavy car so it takes it's toll on many of the running parts, not a problem if maintained regularly.

Considering an average GV4 is getting on for 15 years old, and likely to have done in excess of 120,000, I don't think they are particularly any less reliable/more subject to wear than most other brands. Certainly my 'Stow n Go' is so useful I'll really miss it when its time for it to go.
