Question

Hi all

I have searched the net and this forum without finding answer to my problem.

Okay here it is:

My 07 voyager 2.8 crd is eating alot of oil and Im trying to find out if its a common problem with theese VM motori engine, is it valve steam seal, ring blowby or something else, the engine is also getting hot, not overheating but hotter than what i assume is normal (to the middel of the gauge) when the engine is running there is preassure in the dipstick tube when i pull the stick and also preassure when i open the oil filer cap, if the engine is shut off, there is smoke coming out the oil filer cap if i unscrew it.

Anyway, please let me here your comments.

Cheers from DK

Is there a corresponding dramatic improvement in fuel efficiency?  And at what mileage?

That happened on my 2.5 CRD - and was soon followed by clouds of black smoke: a ring failure sucked and combusted oil.

A recon job, but no complaints as the engine had covered 320,000 miles. Same engine in its second life has added 110,000 miles, so far so good.

I believe the VM was originally a marine diesel, so happy to chug at 2000 - 2500 revs (60 - 70mph) all day long and give >44mpg (although Chrysler odometer not the most accurate so probably closer to 40).

What oil do you use? Grade make? Up to half and spot on half on temp gauge is normal. Some oils are creating this. If it is showing black smoke with a tendency to dark blu grey smoke it is burning it. The only oil i found to meet the specs for this engine is either the genuine on or mobil one green cap/esp formula 5w30. Castrol seems to evaporate as you relate. Did not try onther makes.
