Hi Mate

thanks for the reply.

I have booked the car in for a transmission oil and filter change. My garage suggested exactly what you say.

I have recently had a new battery fitted......sometime in March.

I dont have a check engine light, but that will be checked when it goes in for the fluid change.

What causes the noise to start when the battery has been disconnected?

It's not a loud noise but it is noticable. gears all function correctly.

+1 what Spawntohell said. You must must......must make sure garage uses atf+4, no as good as or it works for every other transmission just atf+4. Quite expensive at £50 plus for 5l. They'll destroy box if use any other.

Battery can cause all manor of faults. Amazing what new battery does for these chrysler. Check all terminals are tight.

Next most common fault on these is faulty ground, corrosion causing bad ground. Even if looks good remove clean area and refit. You'll be amazed at faults slightly bad ground/earth causes.

Hi Alex

I had all the battery problems during the cold spell a few weeks ago. I bought a good battery, ie. recommended for the car.

I will make sure the fluid is as you say. ATF + 4.   I looked it up on Google.ANTI shudder was mentioned. very slight shudder  is what I am experiencing in reverse.

I wonder if it has the wrong fluid added in the past?

+1 on ATF+4 and cannot stress this enough...

Disconnecting the battery on this voyagers clears event data and also dtc codes, and also puts the gearbox pcm/tcm (computer) into learning mode/adaptation mode, during the adaptation mode manifests in some hard/shudder in gear changes till this is finished... and this is according to chrysler workshop manual for 41te/42te/61te/62te gearboxes. As for ATF+4 i would only use the mopar one as is the genuine and is not more expensive then other atf+4 like valvoline and others... If gearbox is filled with dextron... is very bad for this transmissions... Garages ussually not stock atf+4 unless they work on this gearboxes often...
