Aftermarket Stereo/sat Nav

Hi, I'm pretty new to the forum, and just wondered if anyone had had any experience fitting an aftermarket stereo/sat nav to a Delta before - I was looking at one of the new Pioneer CarPlay Apple ones, but Halfords removed the facia in my Delta and said it was impossible to fit (their exact words) - even with the double din facia I'd bought. So, has anyone else ever tried (and/or failed)? Or is it possible to install a manufacturer sat nav (if purchased) that would've come in a higher specification Delta?

I've just fitted one especially made for the Delta that I got off a specialist in Italy! Single din rear with a double din front that also incorporates the 4 buttons across the bottom.

 

It's called Navplus and is available in either piano black or silver and is compatible with the steering wheel controls and the Blue & Me system too.

In short its a full android device with a 7'' touchscreen with CD/DVD, Radio, Internet Radio, Sat Nav, DVB Freeview TV, USB, Rear Camera connection etc. You can tether off your phone to get internet access, and link Google accounts so that all your apps are available on screen.

 

I'll post some pic's of mine installed when I get chance... I only finished it today as the weather has been a b*tch with gale force winds.

That's great, can't tell you how much help you've been! I had seen the NavPlus around but wasn't sure where to buy it, and also if it would be compatible with the standard radio (single din) - if you could post a picture or two that'd be brill, I'll also check out the video.

If like me you hadn't already had a Nav unit in as standard you'll need an extra cable loom with the Cambus box, but they'll include that too...

 

So far I've been really impressed with it as it's the same as having an Android tablet but fitted in your dash.

 

The only niggles I have so far are when you open the drivers door it shows the passenger one open and vice versa? Weirdly though the rear doors show the right way around?

 

Secondly the ''iGo Primo navigation only has Italy pre-installed so you have to go to the 'Naviextras' website and purchase 'Europe'. Now because I don't know what the real brand is behind Navplus I'm not able to select the right version of compatible Sat Nav software... So I'm going to email them and ask a few questions.

 

I have downloaded Google Maps and Navigation which is free and works well, but you need to have the unit tethered to your android phone (internet access) for it to work..

 

There is also a 'factory' menu option available on one of the screens, but it's password protected and I think things like default preferences are hidden there, so for example setting the unit to right hand drive...  Anyway we're only over the hills from each other, so if you wanted to have a look before you buy you're more than welcome to come and have a play.

Try 'be on road' app not sure how good it is as I have standard nav however you can download the maps free so should work off line

Yeah tried that this afternoon but it doesn't support house numbers...It says it does but when it asks you for the number after finding the street the icon doesn't let you change the keyboard from letters to numbers!

Looks great, I'm amazed by the number of apps and the fact it also has Digital TV (how does that work by the way)? Yeah mine came with the standard non-sat nav radio, so I was in the same position as you. It'd be good to have a look actually, and also if you're able to sort the password and left/right hand door opening dash light issue then let me know (not that its a huge problem!). I'll PM you about possibly having a look one day, but otherwise you've certainly answered my question, and I'll be sure to check out that link

Yes it comes with a small in-line black box (DVB TV) which you hide away in the dash. You connect the two supplied TV aerials to it and these mount in the windscreen.one horizontally and the other vertically. Ideally I'd have run them to the back of the car for better reception but the rear quarter windows are too small so I mounted them in top left hand corner of the windscreen.

 

When you select Digital TV from the menu it just works like any other Freeview so has everything from Sky News to Dave!

I'll purchase one at some point this week I think, installing sounds a bit technical but if I can't manage it I'll find someone who can (I don't know the first thing about messing with a car). Thanks though, you've definitely solved the question I had and more!

No worries fella... It's not that difficult to install as its been designed specifically for the Delta.

 

All of the wiring is just plug 'n' play once you understand which cable is for what, and then it's just a matter of routing the cables carefully from the windscreen and glove box.

It's not arrived as of yet, but it should be here this week. This is a question that may have been asked before - does anybody know how to remove the radio unit (the silver plastic surround, and the actual standard radio unit (screen bit) that comes on the non-sat nav versions)?

Ryan you just need the standard removal tool like this:

Insert them into the two holes either side of the fascia and you'll feel a click as it engages and pushes the locking pins in. Then you can just pull the radio out gently and once clear of the aperture unplug the cables at the rear... Make sure you eject any CD you may have prior to disconnection lol!

Sat Nav doesn't need internet providing you download one with off-line maps... I'm still trying to find a good one to be honest, or waiting for Navplus in Italy to confirm what the proper model is underneath the skin so I can update the one already installed.

 

For Google and any internet services you will need to tether off your phone unless you're parked outside your own house and you can simply connect to the wi-fi. I do this for any updates or for downloading new Apps...

Ok great! If you find a decent one before Navplus reply, let me know, but it'd be good to use the navigation that's provided. if once installed I've got any niggles I'll have to pester you! Or as you say, if possible I could swing by one day and come have a look at yours.

Interesting bit of kit ... for me its a bit overkill I just want to able to use my iPod Classic  dont need anything else. My Delta does not have the Blue & Me.

Yes my brother in law has just mentioned that Nokia had a beta version of off-line maps and that it might be worth a try... The Italian supplier isn't responding to my emails surprise surprise, so it looks like we're on our own from a support perspective. I'll give this a go when I'm back in the UK.

 

The Naviextras Nav supplied is really good to be honest, but in order to update/add maps you need to know the version of Android you're running, and screen size etc...and that's what they don't seem to be able to tell me.

I received mine today and have just installed it, but I've got a niggle or two (most likely due to my lack of technical ability) that I was wondering if you could answer for me...

The first was about the iPod connection into the back of the radio. The wire comes out the back and faces downwards, meaning it gets stuck and stops the unit being pushed into place.

The second issue wasn't an issue as such, the TV aerial for the digital TV doesn't seem to have been supplied with it (or if it is, I don't know which wire it is!), I wondered if you had an image of the wire or if you knew what the wire looked like and how it connected.

I'll try the Nokia offline maps as mentioned above because that could be really good

Ryan with regard to the cables stopping the unit being pushed back fully you just need to make sure they have somewhere to go, and clear the central brace at the back of the cage. You need to get you hand in there and organise them so they move out the way when you push the unit in...

 

The Aerials for the TV plug into the small black DVB box and this can be located behind the glove box (Aerials stuck to top left of the windscreen with one Horizontal and the other vertical) Their should be a thick black cable with a round multi-plug at one end which plugs into the black DVB box and the other end is the flat white multi-type plug like the others that connects into the back of the head unit from memory.
