Engine Warning Light

Question

So this light came on initially when old battery was close to death. I changed battery and it went off for a day or two, then came on intermittently and is now on permanently. This has been the case for a few months now, car drives fine!

The local Fiat/Alpha main dealer wants £85 to run the diagnostics ....

Has anyone had this issue and resolved it without needing the diagnostic doing.

Erm it's 'Alfa' with a 'f' if you please! ;)

Engine management lights aren't unusual but definitely worth getting the code read, but not at main dealer prices. Where are you based as we may be able to point you in the direction of a specialist who will probably read the code for free.

The fault could be absolutely anything as the ELM light is generic for I have a problem...and not necessarily anything to do with the battery.

It depends why the light is on, the generic OBD2 scanners will not always give sufficient information or deal with all codes but in this instance it might work

Yep, agree there....however,the meter can be kept for later, and used on most vehicles post 1997....ish?
