The noise was scary, and absolutely no warning.The remains of the shaft still turned and jammed the steering wheel.The local garage came out and cut the remains of the shaft in half so the car could be towed.The park gear won't hold the car with the shaft broken, so the parking brake had to hold it on a downhill.Be warned check the shafts occasionally.I hate to think what the result would have been on the motorway. 0 3ddesign Posted March 25, 2018 Report Share Posted March 25, 2018 Mine on the driver side went the other week in the driveway, thevother side started clicking so changed it today, total handling anf fought me to the end. 0 blackvelvet Posted March 26, 2018 Author Report Share Posted March 26, 2018 What may be of interest.It appears that the Ebay listings for the drive shafts are year specific.I believe they are all the same part number, so they are all the same part regardless of year or engine, even petrol or diesel.I will try to check this to be sure. I've never listened/checked for this before, so a hint would be welcomed, so on a tight turn, slowly moving forward/backwards you'd hear a ticking/clicking? 0 blackvelvet Posted March 28, 2018 Author Report Share Posted March 28, 2018 (edited) Got the shaft replaced.The guys in the garage nearby, came out on saturdat afternoon. got under the car and cut the remains of the shaft off to stop it swinging around, they towed the car back to the garage, 1/2 mile approx.They ordered the shaft on Saturday. I picked the car up today runs very well. As a bonus the folding mirrors have now started working??????????£250 all in. Not bad huh.If anyone is near North Wales these guys have all SNAP ON equipment. 0 3ddesign Posted March 29, 2018 Report Share Posted March 29, 2018 Yeah, id heard the clicking before the first one went but didnt know what it was, whem i changed the strut on that side the snap ring had broken so the drive shaft came out of the cv joint. Mate whos a mechanic asked me had i heard a clicking which i had. Then heard it again last week which was the other side needig doing. Just left work this morning, heard a click when turning out the car park, thought about this thread. Heard the odd noise on the way home, but when I got into the village, I started to hear a banging noise on bumps, which got louder over a couple of hundred yards. Stopped and checked, play in the front passenger wheel. Nursed home another few hundred yards, just about to get the wheel off and have a look.
