Condensation In Headlight

Hi

 

The chilly nights are here. Already had ice on windscreen, and have condensation in (off side) normal bulb headlight.

 

Apparently the headlights have a 'breather hole' that allows air in  / out through under convection.

This may be blocked.

 

Any ideas of where to find it? OR remedies.

 

The heating up of the unit with headlights / removal of hot lamp and replacement could be done, but if a seal has gone, this may not prove a useful route.

 

Offside and nearside would be useful for future readers.

Don't have an answer but this issue seems common to many modern cars, used to get it on an mg TF and seen it on Jaguars, so far our delta is not afflicted though.

Use a hairdryer to dry it out, and then check that the access cover is seated properly. Sometimes if it's not on properly or seated correctly this can be where the air is getting in. I've had this on a few Alfa's and a VXR and in all cases this was the simple fix. I've even used Vaseline on the rubber seal to get an airtight lock on the access cap before now.

 

If that doesn't fix then air is getting in somewhere else and the unit is faulty. As modern light units are all made of abs plastic it's very common. Some manufacturers will replace under warranty, but it can be a struggle to get them to admit there's an issue.

Check it well asap if its under warranty as new Headlight units are pricey....

I notice that in the hand book it says condensation in the light in the form of misting on cold days is normal but if the unit has drips inside to consult your dealer
