Engine Cutting Out When Coming To A Stop And When Idling. 2001 2.5 Crd.

We have been having this problem for a month or so and is slowly getting worse. Basically, the engine stutters and then usually cuts out when idling at lights/junction or when at low revs. This is intermittent at the moment but has got worse in that it is happening quite often and driving in town is becoming stressful. However, when driving normally in anything other than 1st gear or when not slowing down to a stop the car drives great.

 

Anyone with any ideas as to why and perhaps how to fix.

Try replacing the idler sensor but first check the connections to it then test it using a multimeter ,
