Engine Cut When Running Smooth

Having and Chrysler grand Voyager 2.5 diesel 2002 model

 

Intro:

For 2 month ago the engine top during running. I relapsed the diesel filter and the engine start going again.

For 2 week ago the engine stop again.  When I try to start it again the engine don't start. (It may looking like the starter do not  turn the engine). If the engine rest for I while it starts. The engine runs smooth for about 1 minute and the engine stop again.

What have I done:

I have replaced the diesel pump below the car (low pressure).

 

 

The same problem occurs. Replace the diesel pump did not help og change the symptom.

 

Any Suggestion

 

Looking at "Bad starting" 30 September. Look similar.

...not understanding all the grammar in there...but sounds like immobiliser issue. Did you replace the fuel pump with the battery on?

Try getting an ecu read see what comes up.

When turning the ignition to on does it crank loudly and fast or lazy turns?

Yes. I replaced the fuel pump with battery on.

When turning the ignition to on the first time the crank turn "normally". After the engine stop and I turn the ignition on again the crank do not turn at all.

 

Yesterday I had new developing. I wanted to check what I think is called the "fuel rail pressure relief valve". 

While struggling the lat day I have charged the battery. The battery total down after replace the fuel pump. I believe the light have been on. The battery is about 5 year i would guess, but of cheap quality.

 

Yesterday the battery was full charged.

Yesterday the car run for an half hour with out stopping      .

The fuel rail pressure relief valve did not leak. Some fuel come out of the return fuel hose. This may be normally I belive?

 

I have not thought the it may be the battery do to that the engine stopped while running.

I am not running the car on daily basis and understand that the user may have been using the Seat heater. 

I also thought that a diesel engine due not need nearly any electrical power when running. Have started to believe that this may be wrong?

 

I have a theory that the battery is so bad that if other electrical consumer is on it may prevent engine support system as example 

the fuel pump to do the job. For about 2 month ago the generator had mechanical failure. I do not know if bad battery may over load the generator.

 

What ever.  I gone get a new battery and see what happens.  Would return with status.  Comment on the above would had been nice.

 

About "ecu read", guess that read the error message from the car by computer. As hobby mechanic I have not looked into that. Any tip where to start?

When the engine is running you can remove the battery and it will still run.

When I worked on fuel...with an one year old battery it didn't start until I got a new one. I would suggest replacing the battery just to make sure you have good amperage on start.

Do you get a red light( the battery one) on the dash, if you have a multimeter, check that the alternator is charging properly, about 14.4v if is led than 14 investigate further.

In the weekend I have replaced the battery by I new one. The alternator was replace for about 1 month ago. The charging is little less than 14.4 Volt. 

 

I have been driven he car a couple of times this weekend and the car work perfect. 

 

My theory of what happens is as follows.

 

The user of the car have been running with the seat heat on full power. I belief  the seat heater required a lot of ampere.

I addition the battery required a lot of ampere to lift the  voltage to 14.2 voltage.

The fuel pump may have been worn out and require high voltage for delivering fuel, but not broken.

Light is on.

 

These circumstance made it not enough effect from the alternator to run all the utility system for the engine and the engine did not get fuel.

 

Until next time something happens with the car I have defined the car as fixed.
