Inner Tie Rod

Tie rods have failed the MOT so i'm gonna replace them,I've never done inner rods before.

From what i understand I'm going to have to acquire a tool to undo them, will this one do the job ?

It says 'head application from 35 mm -45mm diameter.

I'm having trouble finding the dimensions. Also any tips ?

Is there a risk of damaging the pinion in the rack ?

Not an nice job to do on the Drive but not impossible

 

I recomend this tool is the best others might be not long enough measure your tie rod b4 you buy a right tool.

1. Lift one side

2. Undo the tie rod end from the hub

3. Unscrew the old tie rod end

4. Use your Tool and undo the tie rod

5. Put the new one in place screw it it. Not sure how strong but not much I guess that max 50n is the max but check

6. Put the boot back on and there might be small pipe that goes in to the boot put that back on (grees will be usable)

7. Put new clamps or re use old or just use long straps

8. Repeta on the other side

 

If you Got the right spacer size you might get away from buying special tool but it helps a lot.

I am just about to do this job so thanks Karmannski for that breakdown.

I have a removal tool that is good to 42 mm diameter, would anyone know if this is likely to fit, prior

to me delving into to what would seem to be a very small workspace.

Well the removal tool off ebay was crap but channel locks worked great providing you move the steering wheel to give better access under the car, given the limited space.
