Question

I have become another member of the every increasing Pot Hole Road Club.

What makes it worse is ... FIAT have at least a 12 month back order on 'Chrysler" / "Lancia" spares.

I did try the French to talk a French Lancia dealer, but nil points as far as my French language (just enough to buy dinner / order a beer or two / etc)

Similarly to a Belgium dealer - 12 months wait .. :-(

BUT read on, my intentions are positive....

1) If you are a 198A2 diesel engine driven car, you can locate springs in your friendly FIAT Brava spares department - merely quote your engine number and they can assist! They work out at £49 a side & the obligatory VAT.

You may have to look up / cross reference petrol versions

2) In going down this long and tortuous route, I did an SOS car call to various UK spring makers.

One did come to my aid, and offered to make these for me.

I stated that I would give the firm a mention on here - so contact details are:

I spoke to Ryan and Carl (Managing director).

I am sure that they can help you out in the near future if required.

My instructions were to send to them an undamaged spring - to which they would make me the nearest possible replacements. (Or all the bits).

A British firm that needs to be remembered, probably when, in times to come spare parts are  / maybe at premium prices.

Ryan - thank you and hope all is well

Carl - mention in dispatches - hope the contact via here is worthwhile

Kind regards to the company

Hope they are useful to someone - I don't know if I break Member rules - but they were of a pit prop to me over the last few days.

My Man who can, stated the Bravo springs slotted in as if they were a family member.

He also loved the build quality and drivability of the car - having done the road test after its heart (water pump / cam belt etc) was replaced in the big service.

I find it hard to believe the 12 month delay when I had a delta hf hpe years ago I got a side window on vor in about three days and the car wasn't even imported to the UK. Did you try fiatdalys on line?

https://www.fiatdalys.lt/en/catalog/step2/L/DEL

I've never used them but should be useful (?)

Having said that the list prices on springs are steep but according to the site available in 4 days

Also https://www.shop4parts.co.uk/?name=store&op=Details&ProdID=9043&sku=183222

Also bravo springs so not exact presumably the delta is set up slightly differently?

I would imagine the Bravo springs are rated differently due to different weight and suspension setups. Although the cars share the base chassis its stretched on the Delta and as such the Delta is a heavier car which obviously has a bearing on spring ratings.

The springs are identical to the ones taken off.

coil height / width / thickness / paint code and numbers

Maybe in its pre-life as a FIAT pool car, my car had a similar membership to the same society?

The car handles the same - so, I am more than happy with the repair.

If you place 'a set of aftermarket lowering springs' on to your car, you are legally altering it and therefore have to inform your insurers that a modification has been done on it.

My man has replaced 'like for like', therefore I am sure that I am legal.

(Apologies for the delay in getting back to you with my comments), I became 'locked out' having changed laptops and the previous saved password failed to work - but now, does....

Yes of course lowering aftermarket springs would be classed as a modification.... However providing you tell your insurance it very rarely makes any difference to policy price.

From previous experience something like Eibach pro or sport usually make the car handle much better both on turn in and control over uneven surfaces. I think if it was a classic or rare car I'd probably like you go down the like for like route, but for these Delta's if one of mine snaps it will be aftermarket.

My only issue with lowering springs is that for aesthetics they always tend to lower a tad too much 30mm is quite a lot really I'd prefer 15 or 20mm far more sensible.

Yeah I know what you mean, but I do think it depends on the car too. Some actually look ok, others like you say a little low.

The compromise is a fully adjustable set, but they tend to be expensive and I've never found a set that isn't too harsh to live with day in day out... The best mix I've tried tends to Koni DSG shocks and Eibach pro springs from that respect.
