Limp Mode - No Codes - All Gears Lit? Help Please

Hi guys, first ever post and it's a corker. 2008 2.8crd 4th gen (last of the old) Fsh, 69k - having had four years trouble free driving I now have a limp mode chrysler with all the gears on the dash having a gear selected box lit up around every gear? Can get it in reverse but you don't know as nothing changes on dash. Speedo also not working. Rev counter is!. Transmission oil perfect. Have now had changed input and output speed sensors... No fix. Advised by gearbox specialist it's the transmission solenoid. Changed this last week...... No fix. Now down £500 and still the same. Two attempts to read codes no codes came up? PLEASE HELP.

Gone out this morning battery now dieing, all of a sudden code p1130 and trouble starting. If anyone can shed light I'd be very grateful. Thanks

Speedo relies on a signal from the gearbox output sensor. Your local AA man carries the software to get live readings from the transmission. Join. Your gearbox "specialist" seems to be guessing. At your expense. Output sensors are pennies compared to the cost of a new solenoid pack.

I should add your fault code related to low fuel pressure. Possibly caused by a failing battery and slow cranking. A red herring?

I'd agree with Neil, ignore the low fuel pressure as when battery dies the ECU has to 'start from scratch' or a reboot so has to re-set what it knows.

Based on battery going flat, etc, I think I'd be looking electrical, search the forum and you'll find people with similar issues that seem to indicate a potential ground issue between the gearbox and the chassis, so as usual my first port of call would be each of the connectors, disconnect and reconnect (checking for corrosion on the terminals). Everything needs a good electrical path, and the 'sense' for the gear positions to dash are part of this circuit.

 

(PS: Solenoid pack is also a good contender but do everything else first before dropping the cash for it)

I can only repeat get some live readings not fault codes which can occur for unrelated reasons. The rev counter works from the crank sensor but the speedo from the gearbox output sensor

try the gearbox earth, as there is no speedo and no codes your gearbox ecu is not talking to the car. Your gearbox specialist should know this as its common but instead is changing parts at your expense. If he cant connect to gearbox ecu then that's where to start. I would definitely say its just a wiring problem/ecu as found on multiple threads. Don't allow any further parts to be tried on the car until the ecu has been resolved. You will be throwing good money away.

Hi, just a guess, is the engine earth strip in place, it is connecting the engine with the body, in the picture you can only see only the part that goes on the engine mount, the other end should be attached to the engine mount bracket( is about 10 cm long).

Yes this issue has been on here several times and all sorted. Answer is...Can't remember. A good battery is one answer for all lights iluminated.

Replaced a solenoid pack this week to try curing a slightly clunky change now and again. Tranny went into limp mode but no fault codes. However when looking at live readings I noticed the fluid temperature was reading minus19 degrees. Cleaned the valves and filters on the original and all was good. I have heard the temp sensor was in the range sensor but apparently not it's in the solenoid pack. If you happen to be a member of the country's biggest breakdown organisation they carry the software and will do a diagnostic check for you.

I wish mine was, still sat at the back of the drive. Being a daft stubborn old bugger I have so far refused to get rid, and start it up now and again, usually with a charge and a jump start. It's getting lighter and warmer now so will probably take it apart and check out the Canbus wiring (I hope) and the earth strap condition.
