Instrument Cluster Bulbs

hi guys got 53 reg v6 ltd

my engine management light stopped working 

so took out cluster to change bulb in my cluster there is not 1 bulb all my other lights work including when side lights are on

there are about 8 holes for bulbs but none fitted in cluster 

has anyone had this problem 

dont understand why it all still lights up if no bulbs fitted

There were never any in the first place. Champagne (white) dial clusters have an electroluminescent cluster - means - the whole cluster itself gives off light.

so how do  i get round problem of no engine management light 

i know i get chime if a problem arises do i need to replace cluster
