Question

Hi all

Does anyone have any idea how to reset the electric tailgate as mine seems to have adopted a mind of its own.

Using the key the tailgate opens fully then starts to close until about half way back down then stops and if use the key fob again it opens fully then completely closes your help would be much appreciated.

It sounds like something is affecting the safety sensors that stop the tailgate if it thinks it's hit something. Try spraying some lube on the hinges, they may be a bit sticky.

When you open by hand and lift it can you feel anything as the tailgate goes up (not under power)

- check the chain-links driven by the powerlift mech, spazza scooters use the same chain No CHN-HD2548

- the master link only No HD25ML

- the half link No CHN-HL

- the one and a half link is No No CHN25LHL

Slack off @ the top to get a bit of space, dremel out, re-fit, tighten up, best of luck.

You could help other members here by telling them which problem it had and how you fixed it.

Sorry about delay in telling how the problem was sorted.

A friend suggested opening the tailgate manually several times thinking this may sort the problem.I tried this & it did make a small difference.

So after reading other posts about resetting other items by disconnecting the battery in tried that & to my surprise it seemed to work although on the first opening of the tailgate using the key it seemed to make no difference.

So I left it for a short time & tried again & to my surprise it worked tailgate opening & closing as it should do not too sure what the reset had done but all is now good.

I'm going to wager that it stops working again not long after.

My guess here is not the electrical reset that's helped here, but the continued open and closes you've done trying to test/solve this problem. Which points back to hinges, gas assist and ultimately lubrication. If it does stop again, try re-lubing the joints, mainly the gas assist plunger rods, and hinges and see if it works next time out of the box.

(I'm not saying it's not also electrical, as I'd not be surprised that the system 'remembers' that it's not worked correctly and won't operate correctly until a reset).

Let us know if you do have more trouble as ultimately more feedback helps us all :-)

- problem registers a code

- code becomes a 'maturing' code, ie a specific number of times adds up to a hard code

- hard code shuts something down or shows as a MIL [DTC] indicator

- registers both as a removable [Fuse11 EVIC adjustmant] and an advanced scanner only code

These codes are for example very serious on engine for example, and less urgent but equally irritating on tailgate / doors etc.

Cause however could be anything from resistance, door chain, electronic commands, motor, wiring etc. What you can do is clear via the fuse or the battery terminal for 15 minutes, then physically look for problems in the mech or wiring behind the plastic panel. EVIC, Mk dependant will clear pending only, the more reliable positive battery off for 15 minutes allows the car the enter sleep mode, where the EVIC or fuse method does not.

In this case clearing via the batter has worked for '8953lewis' - congratulations.
