Well the good news is its looking more and more like an issue with the shock design! More specifically the thread/nut on the top of the shock. It appears there is a shortfall of thread! A design fault by the manufacturer perhaps, leaving a small gap between the strut mount and the shock shaft which no amount of tightening of the nut itself resolves as the inner shaft just spins, what you end up with is a very small amount of movement between the inner shaft thread and the strut mount resulting in the rather loud 'clunk'. As I type I'm in the process of trying to fit a washer of the correct thickness onto the shock to take up the slack therefore allowing the nut to be fully tightened and remove said gap! Not as easy as I thought it would be because I'm unable to stop the shaft from turning! May need to fabricate some kind of tool to hold the10mm hex, thus stopping the shaft turning within the shock cover, whilst also tightening the nut. I hate these cars with a passion.

Hi Wonder if you can tell me how the front windscreen parts come off! Do they just lift? Not feeling brave enough to just start tugging away at them and blacking them every week is driving me nuts! I did the door pillars and rear doors with some stainless steel and 3M tape which has worked just fine but terrified of pulling bits off of this car as they do tend to break, a lot..Any and all help most welcome. Cheers.

Both mounts have been done so all new thread and I've replaced with Nylock nuts. I'm gonna have a look at the mounting bracket on the shocks tomorrow, the one half way down the shaft, as the weld is known to brake and that can be an issue because its difficult to spot as it only grates/bangs under load! To be honest I'm still leaning towards the wrong grease having been inserted at the point of manufacture on the tie rod ends as the bang is at its worse when the temperature is low and the grease is thick! The noise definitely lessens when the parts and or the outside temp warms up! Anyway the hunt continues and has been made even more difficult due to all the new parts being fitted. Until then the 300c 3.5 sits in the garage and the Hemi is getting lots and lots of outings! lets hope that don't start clunking

Front end clunk returned Jan 2018. So it was definitely not faulty - Tie Rod Ends - Anti Roll Bar Links - Anti Roll Bar Bushes (tried both rubber & poly) - Front Lower Control Arms - Rear Forward Lower Control Arms - Upper Wishbone (left & right) Rotors (left & right) Upper Tension Struts (left & right) - Shocks (left & right) or engine/gearbox mounts? I think that covers everything, not that there is much if anything left. Anybody got any ideas? I'm more than open to any mechanical suggestions!

Sorry wrong link. Try this one -CHRYSLER VOYAGER MK3 III 01-07 2,5 2,8 UNDERTRAY UNDER ENGINE COVER 3PCS SET NEW Hope this helps.

Have you checked the hub? Could be a wheel bearing? Any rumble apparent? How many miles has it done?
-
Not sure there is anything that can be done on this issue! This is the 4th set of rotors on the front over 62000miles and each and every one has gone the same way. It makes no difference which make is fitted, top quality, good or medium cost they all go the same way. Cheaper to fit TRW pads & rotors and just throw them away at between 12000/20000 miles. Annoying but there it is! Callipers and rotors supplied on Vin# so defo the right parts.

I gave up with the dealers as soon as it was out of warranty and have been looking after things myself ever since. When it went in for the last airbag recall I was waiting on drop links to arrive so I could replace them myself and the 'dealer' said, Oh do you know that one of the 'anti tension units' needs replacing? How much I asked? £842.23 was the reply! I asked them to explain in detail which part they were referring to? Seems that a pair of drop links cost around £30, ditto poly bushes, but if you fit Chrysler 'anti tension units' they come in a tad more expensive!! Same part just way more expensive The good news is there is nothing left to replace on the front end and its now handling as it should, could have been worse! I've put around £3k into upgrade parts that needed replacing over the last seven years but when you consider a dealer also quoted me £57 for a new oil cap and £48 for a sump plug, no, not a joke, then can you imagine what the dealer cost would have been? These are pretty simple cars, mechanically, and once the rubbish bits are junked and replaced with decent ones they should go on for many many years. Fingers crossed...

Can't be done if its got a factory amp fitted, you would have to disconnect that as the two are not compatible, or so I'm told.

It was that simple! I cant believe I could have missed it for so long and spent so much money on trying to chase down one nasty noise! Why did the dealer never find it when under warranty? I've bought and fitted almost every part on the front end and as I replaced each part the noise got worse. OK I'll stop teasing. For my particular vehicle it was as simple as below. Yours maybe different? Who knows. The torque for the top strut mount nuts should be set at 27nm They were barely set at 19nm Did them all at 27nm and I've had not one clunk since! Now done a few hundred miles over country lanes, with big potholes, with just normal suspension noise for the type of road and tyres fitted. Its like Christmas has come early

I know its a silly question but have you checked the fuses for those items in both fuse boxes? If other items are working then fuses are the first place to start searching. -
Could I have found the 'Holy Grail' of the 300c owner? Have I wasted so much time, money and effort replacing parts that never solved that front end clunk? Could it be something this simple? It cant be, this is madness, off to do a test drive. Report back later....

Possible reason why this model/vehicle eats discs/rotors could be that the callipers/pads are about 1/4 inch smaller than the rotor and so within a very short period of time a band appears around both the front and back of the rotor! This allows rust to form and over time a definite ridge appears! Did think about fitting a rotor of the same size as the rear but the front callipers/pads would then be too big! This has to be a design fault as I've never had or seen this problem on any other vehicle I've owned or worked on?

2007 300c Limited Front end clunk: Gets worse if you replace rubber bushes with poly ones. Replaced everything other than one suspension strut. Still got clunk. Disc/Rotors : Gone through a total of four sets from new. Tried very expensive ones and they also fell apart after 12000miles Car done just 62000 from new. Believe I've now found possible rotor problem: Front discs larger than calliper/pads so allows rust to form on 1/4 inch of rotor front & back of the rotor! Oil leak from one of the pipes that run over the top of ECU: Ruined said item, dealer who serviced car never picked it up. Car went into limp home mode. Big dosh. Gave up on rubbish rims: Bought after market ones. CHEAP plastic door clips now needing replacing as door cards falling off. Cheap to fix but annoying. HID/Xeon washer pump failed: Unable to source one, you have to buy entire tank unit, so adapted screen wash pump unit from a Grand Voyager. Rear ABS rings: Cheap enough to source and fit. Sticky front electric windows/switch: Spray them and the runners with silicon spray. Other than that its a great car! Good place to obtain parts: www.buycarparts.co.uk which is part of www.autodoc.co.uk who are based in Germany Hope any of the above helps but I've had enough, spent way too much money on this vehicle so its going before I have to start the process all over again! Wish me luck finding a buyer.

Oh well that makes him one of the lucky ones, I think! There are times I wish I had bought anything other than my 300s, yes I was stupid enough to try a 300c & 300m. But I forgive them every time I catch a glimpse out of the corner of my eye. Still bashing away with the M version and still being frustrated by the front end clunk but man alive it is quick and surprisingly comfortable! Well other than when lying underneath it!
-
I'm also a 300 owner and love the vehicle to bits but man alive they are unreliable and that front end CLUNK has driven me to despair over the last eleven years and the rotor issues have cost ridiculous amounts of money! Just as well they are easy to work on and that I do the work myself otherwise! Happy motoring.

Hi Chris Welcome to the world of owning a Chrysler 300 These cars were cheap for a reason when they first started selling them in the UK and the issues only get worse with age. If cutting out is the only problem you have had then I wish I had you're vehicle.

Inhibitor Switch For A 2009 Chrysler 300C Touring
AngelsEnvy replied to jeananddonal's topic in Newbie Forum
Check out www.AutoDoc.co.uk they a German company despite the co.uk address. If you are not sure about a part you just send them the VIN # and they will confirm if its the correct part for the vehicle. They are not expensive and I've always had a good experience dealing with them. Hope this helps. -
Are you, were you, referring to what has become known as the 'Pink Switch'? If so type it into google and it should take you to YouTube A1 Autos site with a video. There is a proper 'metal part' you can get which for the money, about £30 stops this problem ever occurring again. Hope this info helps.
-
OK so new callipers have solved that problem! From experience should get anywhere between 10000 & 20000 miles before they fall apart, again. Surprise surprise, the front end clunk is still there at low speeds, despite that very expensive front end rebuild, and over bumps around town! Got to the stage now where I was thinking maybe it was some kinda sick joke played on us Brits by GM? Or maybe it was an mp3 file loaded into the sound system? If only it were I'll never touch a Chrysler again no matter how pretty it looks.
