  1. Yeah, the early mark2 Ducato (94 on) had the wiper ducting drain straight on top of the battery, which overflowed and coated the chassis leg in battery acid!!! The modification was to move the drain as far as possible from the battery . . ie, over the gearbox vent, which washed the grease off the external linkage and seized it!!! Some days you are the pigeon, some days you're the statue

  2. And of course do absolutely make sure that you check the atf fluid level in the gearbox. If it smells burnt, and isn't pinky red it's got a problem. Because in limp mode (2nd gear I believe, my old 3.3 is in it) at 3000rpm you'd still be doing a reasonable speed!!
